Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie (originally Angelina Jolie Voight) is an American actor and director famous for her sexual edginess, sex appeal, and humanitarian work. Jolie was awarded an Academy Award for her supporting role as a mental patient in Girl, Interrupted (1999).Jolie, daughter of actor Jon Voight, spent much of her growing up in New York before relocating to Los Angeles at age 11. She was a student at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute for two years and later enrolled in Beverly Hills High School. She later studied drama at New York University. In addition to appearing in theater productions, she also was a model and featured in music videos.Jolie's first film-related part was in Hackers (1995), during the filming process, she became engaged to her first husband British actor Jonny Lee Miller (married 1996; divorced 1999). Similar to several other films, the film did not attract a crowd. In 1997, however Jolie gained a lot of notice for her performance as the wife of Alabama's segregationist governor in the television movie George Wallace, and she later received the Golden Globe Award for her portrayal. She played the role of a supermodel suffering from drug addiction in the HBO movie Gia in 1999. Her performance was rewarded with numerous honours including a Golden Globe Award and Screen Actors Guild Award. In 1999, she starred in the comedy Pushing Tin with John Cusack and Billy Bob Thornton, and in the year following she got married to Thornton (divorced 2003).After the Oscar-winning role in Girl, Interrupted, Jolie played a variety of action-oriented films. In Gone in Sixty Seconds ((2000)) she played Nicole Cage's lover. Later, she changed her accent to an accent that resembled a British accent, and mastered the art of street fighting and kickboxing, and was able to play the roles in Lara Croft Tomb Raider (2003) and Lara Croft Tomb Raider : The Cradle of Life (2004). She played the role of Alexander's mother in Oliver Stone's Alexander (2004) and also starred alongside Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow in Sky Captain and The World of Tomorrow (a sci-fi thriller set 1930s New York City). Both films were box-office failures, but Jolie scored a hit in Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005) the film in which she played an assassin who was disguised as a typical housewife. While making the film she was introduced to Brad Pitt, who became her co-star.
