Summer Bishil Bio

    Summer Bishil was born in Pasadena, California. When she was three years older, her family and she moved to the United States. Summer was a student at American as well as British schools as her family was in Europe. She returned to Pasadena California, just before her 14th birthday. Summer was five years old when she began to fall in love with acting and began her first acting class. Nine months later, she made an agreement with an agent as well as a manager and began to pursue her acting career full-time. She is currently pursuing her degree at college in her free time. One of the "Ten Actors to Watch" by Variety (2007). Nominated for Best Actress – Spirit Award. Bishil started acting lessons at the age of 14. In just one year she was signed with an agent and manager. Her first appearance was on the brief-lived Nickelodeon television show Just for Kicks, followed by appearances on a variety of other children's shows.Bishil's first big break came when she played the lead in Alan Ball's film, Towelhead in 2007, which was a re-telling of the novel with the same name. Dana Stevens, a critic for Slate she said that Bishil's performance was "the most genuine thing" in the film which was, despite the best intentions it was utterly fake and a little embarrassing. It was as if it was an extended PSA on inappropriate touching. Bob Strauss, a Los Angeles journalist at the newspaper, declared that Bishil "...is among the most gifted natural film actresses in recent times. Gary Goldstein, in a September 12, Los Angeles Times, review of Towelhead declared that Summer Bishil ("...newcomer) is a stunning and engaging performance in Jasira. In 2009, she was a part of Wayne Kramer's Crossing Over movie starring Harrison Ford, Ray Liotta, and Ashley Judd. Jay Reiner, Associated Press, appreciated her portrayal. The film was a success and she was cast as Azula in M. Night Shyamalan's 2010 film The Last Airbender. This was to be the primary theme of the planned but never released sequel.
